Using the Interactive Pedigree Chart

The Interactive Pedigree opens any pedigree in Pedigree Search full screen, so you can zoom in, follow a single branch and expand it out to seven generations.

Opening the Interactive Pedigree

Run a Pedigree Search and choose a horse from the results list. Above the pedigree chart, click View Interactive Pedigree.

The chart opens at four generations, with race and produce achievements under each ancestor, such as MG1W for a multiple Group 1 winner. See Pedigree Chart Abbreviations.

The toolbar

  • Branch: focus on one part of the pedigree. Choose H1 (sire side), H2 (dam side) or a single quarter: Q1 (paternal sire), Q2 (paternal dam), Q3 (maternal sire) or Q4 (maternal dam). The chart expands that branch and collapses the rest.
  • Zoom level: the current zoom, shown as a percentage.
  • Fit View: fits the whole chart on screen.
  • Expand All and 7 Gen: expand the whole pedigree to seven generations at once.
  • Collapse: resets the chart to the starting four-generation view.
  • Exit: closes the Interactive Pedigree and takes you back to your results.

Moving around the chart

  • Zoom: scroll up or down.
  • Pan: click and drag.
  • Expand or close an ancestor: click the + or - beside the name.
  • Focus on an ancestor: double-click the name.
  • Fit to screen: press F.
  • Exit: press Esc.

Spotting duplicated ancestors

Highlighted names show ancestors that appear more than once in the pedigree. Blue is a male duplicate and pink is a female duplicate. A lighter shade means both appearances are in the same half of the pedigree, and a darker shade means they appear across both halves. Expanding to seven generations is a quick way to see how deep a duplication runs. See Ancestral Duplication Explained.
