Pedigree Chart Abbreviations
Pedigree charts on G1 Goldmine show a short code under ancestors with a notable race or produce record, so you can see at a glance where the black type sits in a pedigree. You'll see these codes on the Pedigree Search chart, the Interactive Pedigree and the pedigree chart in each Broodmare Report mating.
How the codes work
Each code has a level, then W or Pr:
- G1, G2 or G3: Group or Grade 1, 2 or 3. SW covers stakes races.
- W: the horse won at that level.
- Pr: the horse is a producer at that level, meaning the dam of a winner at that level.
- M at the front means multiple.
Common examples
- G1W: Group 1 winner.
- MG1W: multiple Group 1 winner.
- G2W and G3W: Group 2 and Group 3 winners.
- G1Pr: dam of a Group 1 winner.
- MG1Pr: dam of more than one Group 1 winner.
- G2Pr, MG2Pr and G3Pr: producers at Group 2 and Group 3 level.
- SWPr: dam of a stakes winner.

Highlighted ancestors
A horse is considered inbred when the same ancestor appears more than once within four generations. Coloured highlights show the duplicated ancestors and where they sit:
- Light blue: male duplicate within the same half of the pedigree.
- Dark blue: male duplicate across both halves.
- Light pink: female duplicate within the same half.
- Dark pink: female duplicate across both halves.
To switch the highlights off, tick Hide Inbreeding under the chart. Click Legend for a quick reminder of the codes and colours.
