Accessing Horse Information

To access the Horse Information feature, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your G1 Goldmine account: Enter your username and password on the G1 Goldmine homepage. This feature is limited to Pro members only, however all other users receive a free number of searches.
  2. Navigate to the Horse Information section: You can find this under the main menu or by using the search bar to locate a specific horse.

Key Features

Once you have selected a horse (or entered a hypothetical mating using a Sire and Dam), you will be presented with a comprehensive profile. Here are some of the key components you will find:

1. Impact Analysis

An expectation algorithm is used to analyse the performance of horses based on their lineage and historical data. It calculates the likelihood of a horse's success by considering the achievements of its ancestors and relatives. A total of 20 crosses across 4 generations are considered using both male and female ancestors. This makes the Impact Analysis superior than other algorithms which only consider male ancestors.

2. Impact Analysis - TIGHT

The "Impact Analysis - TIGHT" is a more refined version of the standard Impact Analysis used in G1 Goldmine. Here's a clear explanation:

    • Detailed Analysis: This profile takes a more specific approach by considering each horse's exact location within the pedigree.
    • Quarter Pedigree Analysis: It breaks down the pedigree into quarters and analyses the influence of each ancestor based on their specific position (e.g., maternal grandsire, paternal great-grandsire).
    • Enhanced Precision: This allows for a more precise prediction of the effectiveness of a cross, as it evaluates the detailed impact of each ancestor.
    • Outcome: The TIGHT profile provides a better indication of the cross's effectiveness. However, because it requires more specific data, it may sometimes result in an 'X' indicating that there is too small a sample size to accurately compute the expected performance.

In summary, while the standard Impact Analysis gives a broad overview of the potential effectiveness of a cross, the TIGHT Impact Analysis offers a more detailed and precise evaluation by considering the specific location of each ancestor within the pedigree. This increased specificity can lead to more accurate predictions but also requires sufficient data to avoid sample size limitations.

  1. Distance Profile

The Distance profile in G1 Goldmine is a visual tool used to analyse and display the performance of stakes winners that share a similar pedigree to the horse selected in the search. The chart provides insights into the optimal distance for racing based on the 5 key ancestors of a pedigree - Sire, Grand Sire, Dam Sire and 4th Dam.

How to Interpret the Data

At the conclusion of a cross being analysed by the algorithm, it is given a score which can either be positive, negative or unknown (x). Shading is also used to make identifying success/failures quicker:

  1. Understanding the Scores:
    • Positive Scores: Indicate that the cross has outperformed expectations. These are highlighted in either green or gold.
      • Green Highlight: Shows a positive score indicating good performance.
      • Gold Highlight: Indicates a very high positive score, representing exceptional performance.
    • Negative Scores: Indicate that the cross has underperformed expectations. These are highlighted in red.
  2. Evaluating the Crosses:
    • Green and Gold Cells: The more green and gold cells in the Impact Profile, the better. These cells indicate that the crosses have consistently outperformed expectations.
    • Red Cells: Should be avoided as they indicate that the crosses have underperformed.
  3. Making Decisions:
    • When analysing a horse's pedigree and potential crosses, aim for a profile with a majority of green and gold cells. This suggests that the lineage has a strong track record of success.
    • Be cautious of profiles with numerous red cells, as these indicate a history of underperformance.

In summary, the goal is to identify crosses with predominantly green and gold cells in the Impact Profile, as these signify strong, successful pedigrees. Avoid crosses with red cells, as they suggest a higher likelihood of underperformance.

Conclusion

The Horse Information feature on G1 Goldmine is an essential tool for anyone involved in the horse racing and breeding industry. By providing detailed and accurate data, it empowers users to make informed decisions and maximise the potential of their horses. Whether you are analysing pedigrees, assessing performance, or planning a breeding strategy, the Horse Information feature offers the insights you need.
