Pedigree Search - Finding the right cross

The Pedigree Search tool is designed to meticulously research the effectiveness of individual ancestors or their combinations within a pedigree. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to utilise this powerful feature:

  1. Starting a Search: Initially, you'll see a blank pedigree chart on the right side of the interface. Every position within this pedigree is searchable. Simply click on the position you're interested in, enter the name of a horse (for example, "Street Cry" as a Sire), and hit the search button. This action initiates the search.

  1. Understanding the Pedigree Layout: The pedigree is divided into two halves for analytical purposes:

    - H1 above (top half): Represents all ancestors found within the top half of the pedigree.

    - H2 above (bottom half): Represents all ancestors in the bottom half. If you're interested in exploring the effectiveness of a cross between sire side and dam side, you would start with a combined H1 and H2 search.

  1. Quartile Searches: For more detailed lineage analysis, the tool also allows searches by quartiles within each half of the pedigree (Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4). For instance, you might enter "Sadler’s Wells" in Q1 and "Nureyev" in Q3 to investigate specific lineage connections between the sire-line and the broodmare sire-line.

  1. Viewing Results: After conducting the search, you'll be presented with up-to-date metrics, including the total number of runners, total stakes winners, and strike rates for the horse entered. Above these statistics, there's a list of graded stakes winners that match your search criteria.

  1. Additional Features:
    • Country Filter: This option allows you to filter search results based on the country.
    • Inbreeding Toggle: Use this feature to view or hide inbreeding details in the pedigree.
    • Ancestor Performance Abbreviations: Located in the legend, this helps you quickly understand the abbreviations used in your results.
    • Export Options: You can export your search results into a PDF document for further analysis or record-keeping.

  1. Advanced Features: The tool also includes more sophisticated functionalities such as the Aptitude Profile, VGS, Affinity Matrix, and the Gen 2-3-4 Search function, all accessible via tabs at the top of the interface.

By leveraging these features, users can gain deep insights into pedigree effectiveness, helping them make informed decisions in their breeding and racing strategies.
